"Prabhava Kala Kanthi" is the annual art exhibition held at Prabhava where we showcase the year's art work of the children of Prabhava.
Art serves as a great medium to teach various things to children as the idea of various art activities never ceases to excite them. The children learnt how to count, identify shapes and colors, tell stories, identify parts of a plant, identify animals and so on through the medium of creative artistic expression. The art exhibition is thereby a testament to the extent one can go beyond textbooks and conventional classroom atmospheres to create a fun and productive learning environment.
Check out some of the pictures we took at the art exhibition this year.
The Art Exhibition
The Clay Studio
The children of Prabhava simply love working in the clay studio. The children learn how to make all kinds of shapes, figures and objects with the clay during the periodic clay workshops conducted by a veteran clay modeler. The children specifically love making pots as it is exciting to see a lump of clay transform into a pot of perfect symmetry through the guiding touch of their tiny hands.
We uploaded some of the pictures we took during one of the clay workshops in this slideshow.

Bommala Koluvu
Children love dolls when they are growing up. Dolls are thereby an intrinsic part of childhood. "Bommala Koluvu" is a celebration of art, craftmanship, diversity, colour, and above all, childhood!
We have a wonderful tradition of honoring artisans during festivals. Dasara is the celebration of the art of doll makers . There was a time when every home used to have a "bommala koluvu", a celebration of dolls, where traditional clay and wooden dolls were aesthetically presented with great pomp and show. However in the contemporary world, due to the mass production of plastic and lead painted bright toys, traditional doll making is a diminishing art and cottage industry. We think celebrating this festival will contribute to the effort to save the art of traditional doll making.
Prabhava organized a “Bommala Koluvu ” to continue a wonderful tradition. We uploaded some of the pictures we took during the event.
Republic Day
"We are the children, We are the nation," chanted our children with infectious excitement as they dressed up in various costumes to pay tribute to our great nation on Independence Day. We thought that conducting a fun event based on celebrating our country's culture was important for the children to understand the brilliance of our country.
Watch the slideshow of some of the pictures we uploaded from the fun event we conducted at the school.

Field Work
Prabhava has regular field work sessions. One of our advisors is Dr. Vinita, a senior agriculture scientist at the Agriculture Research Station in Nellore. She helped us design crop patterns, understand planting cycles, understand harvesting cycles and understand other agricultural operations.
She regularly interacts with the children. In this particular interactive session the children learnt how to sort out the seeds. Dr Vinita explained the concept of germination through the use of well made informative films. The children later chose little plots in our field and planted a set of seeds. They later learnt to harvest the crop and took their first produce home! We grew cotton, paddy, maize, sweet corn, ground nut, sunflower and legumes last year.
Dr Vinita also made sure she explained the nutritional values of each edible plant and the art of maintaining a field book. At Prabhava we aim to teach science in the most hands-on manner.
We uploaded some of the pictures we took during the field work sessions in this slideshow.
Teacher's Day
We celebrated teacher's day by asking our children to become our teacher's! They chose what teacher they wanted to be and dressed up accordingly.
The children really loved this event.
We uploaded some of the pictures we took at the time in this slideshow.

Activities
Story Telling, Sand Pit and Fun with Visitors
We think story telling is great way to get our children to learn simply because they love listening to and telling fun stories.
Gandhi Jayanthi
The revolutionary idea of self reliance propagated by a simple turn of the charkha by Mahatma Gandhi brought to knees the might of the British Empire. The spinning wheel of the Indian handloom cottage industry helped our society cling onto its cultural identity by being the signature of the freedom struggle against the oppressive British regime.
We decided that it was important to pass on the baton of the cultural brilliance that is our hand loom heritage to the future generations of this country and that it was our responsibility to pay tribute to the talented and hard working artisans of our country of immense diversity.
Check out some of the pictures taken during the handloom week conducted at Prabhava.

Festivals!
In our country of staggering diversity, its important to learn to celebrate, respect and enjoy the vibrant festivals of our multi-cultural society. At Prabhava we celebrated the popular festivals of our community by exploring the essences of the festivals rooted in the early agrarian communities and redefining them to a relevant contemporary outlook in order to help the children analyze the festivals beyond religion by understanding the sociological background. For instance, we celebrated Dasara as "the festival of dolls", and Sankranthi as "the festival of farmers".
This year, we celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi, Christmas, Ramjan, Sankranti, Dasara and so on. We uploaded some of the pictures taken during each of the events conducted to celebrate each festival in our school. Do take a look.
Exploring the School
The school has more than enough room for the children to play, learn and have fun. We also ensured that the school has a visually stimulating atmosphere. We uploaded some of the pictures taken inside the school in this slideshow.
